The kid staring back at him looked a bit younger, dark eyes bewildered and wide as saucers. For a moment the two sat there, staring at each other. Will cleared his throat, face burning. "H-hey," he choked out.
The boy blinked at him, eyes widening in confusion. "Hi," he said. His voice threw Will off. It was deeper than he'd expected.
"So, uh." Will cleared his throat again. "Whatcha doing here?"
The boy let out a puff of air through his nose, like a scoff mixed with a laugh. "Are you running from someone?" he asked.
"What? No," Will said.
"Then why did you slam the door? You're super loud. You know the goal of hiding in the janitor's closet is to not be found?"

But everything about them is different. They are different from each other, and everybody else. What will happen in those three days? What will happen after those three days? Nico di Angelo is finally happy. He's learning to accept himself for his sexuality and as a son of Hades. After everything horrible that has happened to him, he's slowly getting better with the help of Will and his friends. Will Solace finally got the boy of his dreams. The boy he had a crush on since he was 11 years old. He's starting to realize that he isn't as useless as he thinks he is, and that he's actually worth something. Everything is going great for a while. But just like it always is for demigods, nothing good ever lasts. The death of Nico's first and closest friend Jason Grace puts a sudden end to the sunshine that currently brightens Nico's life for once. His death triggers a lot of things for him, and shines light on a lot of his unresolved trauma. Will Nico be able to make it through this without his mental stability completely breaking once and for all? Will Nico be able to let people in enough to help him get through it? And what about the mysterious dreams that Nico keeps having of his mom? And who really is this little girl that knows nothing about her past? In this sequel to Out of the Shadows, Nico sees familiar faces and revisits past places, but at least this time he has Will along for the ride.
