"Alexander, stop." the feeling of a pair of eyes tracing every feature laid upon my face caused hunger for air to pant through my lungs. Suffocation caused my chest to buff up and down, running the sweat of my palms on my skirt.

"You stop, Mia," The brown-haired boy sat in front of me with eyes continuing to admire the beauty he once called me. The rhythm of his gazed desire matched the many moments he displayed in the past. "It's bothering me that you're acting as if nothing happened. I understand why you do, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt me." the chestnut brown that shaded his pupils bore into mine.

The voice I wanted to come out was stuck in my throat. "We won't work, Alexander." A bullet crossed his eyes and shot through my chest; I instantly felt pain. The truth hurt to hear, but it needed to be said, even if it was not my intention.

His eyes hung low on my lips as if that was the only way to keep him from falling. "Is that your opinion or a fact?" I went blank; I had nothing left to say.

Alexander held the fate of our relationship in the palm of my hand. He knew I was hanging on by a thread that grew thinner due to the weight of my feelings growing on my chest. I was holding on tight but was breaking with time.

The silence between us was unusual, like a city quiet at a hush. Or a party silenced with a mute.
