Zia is a 16 year-old girl who lives in San Diego, California. Starting junior year at Westview High, Zia has neither high or low expectations. She never really been overly smart but she knows she smarter than average. She just wants to get through the year, period. Her life has never been that interesting, she's always had friends, but somehow feels lonely, she's not rich, but she doesn't have the luxury of buying whatever. She's literally, plainly average. No one knows how Zia is really struggling. It's been going on for a while, long before her parents got divorced a few months ago. Lucky for her, the divorce just piles onto the weight that carry's her around. If Zia has a life many would wish to have, why isn't she happy? She seems to want more and never have enough. This is the story of a plain average girl trying to figure out her mental issues, and if she even has them. During this time she finds out revelations of her friends, her love interests and her family during the divorce. As well as her almost suicide attempts.
Isabella's life has been anything but easy. At 14, she's already endured more than most. Her mother and her mother's boyfriend, Jack, were both controlling and abusive, leaving Isa to navigate the scars of their manipulation. Her mother always told her that her father abandoned them, and she never mentioned anything about brothers. Isa has lived believing she was truly alone.
But everything changes when her mother and Jack are arrested, leaving her without a guardian. With nowhere else to turn, Isabella is sent across the country from Chicago to Los Angeles to live with nine brothers she never knew existed. Struggling with the trauma of her past and the lies she's been fed, Isa finds herself thrust into a new life with strangers she's supposed to call family.
What she doesn't know is that these brothers are far from ordinary. They are not just successful men-they are the leaders of a powerful mafia empire, operating in the shadows of the city. Every brother has secrets of their one, as they have a hard time trusting anyone out of the family. Non the less the 9 brothers form a marvelous team.
