For their last day together before they split off for college, six high school friends celebrate by playing an old game they found in one of their attics: "Primeval". Upon starting the six-player game, the friends are sucked into the world of "Primeval" and spawned into their character roles. The only way out is to finish the game, and with a typically twelve-hour board game like "Primeval," they know they're in deep. However, there is one catch-if you die in the game, you die in real life.
James is spawned as an elven Mage with incredible magical skill... but the worst health you could imagine.
Megan is spawned as a half-elven, half-human Ranger: a rogue-like warrior known for their usage of bows and arrows... but she is also spawned with the lowest stats of the group.
Riley is spawned as a Warrior with a powerful longsword, but her shorter-than-average height is turned into a cruel joke when she realizes that she has been spawned as a... dwarf.
Kalan is spawned as a human Cavalier, a warrior known for their usage of swords, shields, and skill on horseback... but in the most important stat to a Cavalier, dexterity, she spawned a 1.
Casey is spawned a half-elven, half-human... Berserker. Known for their aura of rage that dominates the battlefield and scares their enemies shitless, Casey, a theatre-kid, is definitely not.
Redd is spawned as a human Rogue, but Rogues are known as stealthy, lithe, and agile... not 6'7" linebackers.
First off, this story was not written by me. I am posting it for a friend of mine, with permission of course.
This took place in a Dungeons & Dragons game over 30 years ago. It is a about how one of the player characters got his start; Crentar Bronn. He is a human ranger of 1st level in this story. This is important to note, because it'll bring more perspective as you read the story. I was the DM (Dungeon Master) for this game. At the time, we were still in high school, which of course, gives away our age. lol
I decided to have each character do it solo before they actually met up with each other. A teaser so-to-speak. Eventually, there was five player characters in the game.
My friend who ran Crentar Bronn remembers this whole solo adventure to this very day in great detail. A few years after the game is when he wrote this story. We were recently reminiscing about 'old times' and he told me that he actually wrote it out as a story. He was then able to find it on an old hard drive & then sent it to me. I was very surprised at how good this is & how great his memory was from that adventure. I'm flattered that he was so inspired by it, that he turned it into a story!
I hope you enjoy this early adventure of Crentar Bronn as much as we did. Perhaps, with enough comments & likes, he'll be inspired to write more chapters.
