The one thing that stands the narrator and their home is a simple lake, which, in wintertime, is locally infamous for its unreliably frozen surface. As they contemplate the lake and its victims, they sprint recklessly to the other side. Their path is familiar, but perhaps their footing is not so certain as they would like to believe. This story is appropriate for all ages, and for me, it was more of a writing experiment. I had to get creative with thoughts and descriptions, not only to keep the expectation-defying ending consistenr, but because the character's eyes were closed, so I could not use literal visual descriptions. The ending can be a little confusing to some, but I hope it was effective; please comment any questions or suggestions! All Rights Reserved
