The first time I saw the color, I thought it was a sign that things were going to work out.

How could I not see those vibrant purples and cobalt blues framed in a swirling aura of chimerical colors lighting up the rumbling midnight storm clouds as a bad thing? How was I to know then that this color composed of many, but still one, was an omen while the world around us burned? That it wasn't to be our rainbow from God signaling our salvation from the madness that consumed those outside our borders? That the hues I failed to recreate with my crayons and pencils on the floor of my brother's cabin would twist and corrupt everything bathed in its light?All Rights Reserved

"As I looked up, my eyes met someone else's. He had curly copper brown hair that fell on his forehead and a chiseled jaw but I wasn't too concerned about his physical attributes. What really stuck out to me was his hazel eyes. I felt my pupils dilate as I slowly melted in his eyes. I felt safe in the comfort of his gaze. Why do I feel safe? The room faded away. It was just the two of us. Why does he have this effect on me? His eyes looked sympathetic. Why is he sympathetic? What are my eyes telling him? I felt a warm sensation flow through my body as my breaths became deeper. I didn't care about any of what happened before and I didn't care about anyone else. Color. It's something our brain makes up. It doesn't really exist. So how come everyone made a big fuss about meeting and touching their soulmate so they could see in color? After all, what's so bad about black and white? Aren't they colors too? That's what Nico thought anyway. When he was younger he had tried to imagine a new color but had never been able to. His sister had died seeing the world in black in white. Nico didn't see the point of color. That is, until he touches his soulmate and sees what he's been missing out on... Edited January 2024.

We all hate the storm for the disaster it created and praise the sun, when the storm just wanted to protect us. The storm and the shade. She's the storm and the shade. She's the chaos and the calm. Only I can't see the chaos. Not fully. She's keeping it all inside. All I see is the calm. I can tell though. I can tell there's chaos. I just can't see it. It's not so black and white. It's not a simple boy likes girl. Girl likes boy. It never was. But I like her. I do. The storm and the shade.

When I was born, the hospital my mother was in caught fire. She didn't make it due to severe burns, so I was put in a foster home. I suffer from dyslexia and ADHD, but also a curse. Wherever I go, fire follows. My first foster house burned down and three people died, the second one burned and this time, no one died. By the fifth foster home, I was a danger to others and I wasn't allowed in a house with other children. It was as if the world had cursed me to always destroy others, to kill, and to take. I never wanted to go to a new home, I tried to stay away, tried to seclude myself, but a boy with chocolate brown eyes and a leather jacket decided he wouldn't let me.
