Both Killua and Gon are entering their first year of college. Killua is deaf, and recently managed to escape his abusive family. Gon is a coda, which stands for child of deaf adults. Killua is having a tough time in college because of the language barrier between him and his professors and peers, problems with his interpreter not always being able to be there, bullying, and discrimination. Gon helps him navigate his way through college.
