Ophelia Black never wanted to run away with the circus, but it's the only option she has left. Accused of being the witch who burned down the mayor's house in a world that fears and despises magic, Ophelia finds herself at the mercy of her once-neighbors in her small town. In her desperation, she finds herself running to the tents of Cirque des Tempêtes, a travelling circus just stopping by. To her relief and surprise, she is immediately swept up and welcomed into the circus' ranks, but she is quick to realise that nothing is as it seems. The fire-breather is a real dragon, the acrobats fae and the strongman a were-something (Ophelia is too scared to ask what exactly). All of them under the watchful eye of the ringmaster, a flamboyant man who calls himself The Great Witch Oleander, who also promises to clear her name. Taught from a young age to fear magic and all its users, Ophelia is confused, stuck between a rock and a hard place. Should she stay and force herself to perform in their strange shows for the possibility of being vindicated, or should she escape and go on the run alone? Also, why does this Oleander seem so fixated on her?
