This is a short story written for the Contemporary Lit Contest: A Fantabulous Easter.

Running from home after the aftermath of loss, Mari finds herself in California. Alone for Easter, she reluctantly agrees to attend a coworker's Easter party. The lingering memories of spending holidays with her family continue to pull at her as the bright cheer surrounding her ignites. What she doesn't expect is a face from her past to appear. 

Through reminiscent Easter fun, Mari begins to cherish the very things she ran from. Will it be enough to bring her home, or will the pain of her past keep her miles from the one place that still holds her heart?

You should also know that I am finally free. *** In a final, frantic shot at fleeing a predisposed battle, she finds herself overlooking the furious waves below. It is, at last, time to take a bow and step offstage. When she leans forward, arms wide open to embrace the only fate she can decide, she doesn't expect to survive. Fate really has a means of getting its way at the end. *** He's never been an impulsive person in general, but somehow finds himself in the water to save the absolute dimwit whom he could've sworn was on the cliff ten seconds ago. The girl isn't very grateful when she sees her newest visitor at the hospital. Strange, considering he just saved her life. Disregarding her dance around the bush, he's determined to unravel her story, to unearth the demons she sought to escape. Before he knows it, he's tangled in the wilds of her mind, having ventured way too far. Leaving it to fate to determine what would happen if he was yanked right out.

He rushed to the hospital after receiving the call from the doctor. He felt restless, even though he didn't love his wife, he was scared about his baby's health. After reaching the hospital he enquired about the maternity ward in the reception and rushed towards it frantically. He hurriedly went to the doctor and the doctor explained to him about his wife condition, that his wife is very anemic and she is in depression. If she is not taken care well it will be difficult for her to continue the pregnancy. A wave of guilt hit him harshly ... he feared that he might lose his own blood because of his arrogance. He decided to treat her well atleast until her delivery. He saw around the ward and noticed other pregnant women with their husbands, he felt a pang in his heart realizing how he treated his wife. He entered the room and saw his unconscious wife, she looked pale and weak that's when he noticed she's become skinny after getting pregnant. Her jaw and collar bones are clearly visible to him but once, she was a cute and chubby little girl....but not anymore. All she wanted to do was get some fried chicken from Mr. Brenalds; instead she ends up seeing Mayne slit someone's neck while Jay snapped another's.
