The Shack... that's what they call it. The once-beautiful architecture of the three-story building is ruined, with large chunks of the walls missing and all of the wood is warped beyond recognition with rot. Where the windows once were, there is only gray cloth and frames lined with shattered glass. And in the half-rotten oak door, clear as day, are slash marks. But why are they there? Was it some animal? The townspeople all think that. But nobody knows why it was abandoned, or what happened that night... the night that gunshots and piano rang through the air almost 75 years ago.
But one night, one Saturday night in the summer, Hazel wakes up to the gunshots and piano music of that one night in 1966 ringing through her ears... and nobody can hear it, except for her and her siblings. The absurdity of going into the Shack was enough for her older brother to race in there... leaving Hazel and Sarah to go in after him.

Emmy's life is going just as she'd planned: She's living in her own apartment, dancing every day and is just leaps away from being named her company's next Prima ballerina. And she's only 17. But all of Emmy's plans come to a screeching halt when the FBI shows up at her door to let her know that she's being stalked by a serial killer. Suddenly, the safe, insulated world she created for herself is riddled with violence, fear...and a growing pile of dead bodies. At first Emmy wants nothing more than to forget her chilling new reality - but her admirer isn't finished with her yet, and before she knows it, Emmy's stuck in a nightmare she can't dance her way out of.
