La Ombra

That was years ago. The love, the warmth, and my wife (Emma). Tears crept down my face as I continued to cry for her. I missed her immeasurably. I missed the peace she gave to me, and the happiness she shared upon me. She was my safe place. My safe place from them. The shadows.
The shadows that had always haunted me. They would scream and claw at my ears. They swayed and shifted, danced and teased me. They never went away. They were cemented onto me as if some dark punishment to drive me insane.
My skin began to itch as I tried to scratch my already blemish skin. I screamed as my gloved hands didn't allow me to scratch the unbearable call to calm the itching. I screamed and screamed until two men opened the heavy padded door. They came into the room with three boxes. I shook with fear as they came closer. The men spoke, but I couldn't hear them over the towering shadows they brought with them. Tears flowed from my face as I begged them to leave.
But they didn't.
