This is a short story that I wrote for my creative writing class. My professor really enjoyed it and said I should enter it into some writing contests, so I thought I'd publish it here to start. This is a creative nonfiction piece that is based on a true story about the time I had an irrational "cancer scare" and how my mom helped me get over it, hence the title "Doctor Mom." My goal for this piece is to give readers insight into the context behind my hypochondria and to ultimately show readers that cancer isn't a death sentence. I hope y'all enjoy my story!

Don't get me wrong, I love Light, but Darkness makes it hard to stay and fight. * Melody is weird. She's childish. She's awkward. And she's got boy issues she needs to work out. Mel will face evil like no other, but can she do it? Will the scales of Light and Darkness finally be tipped? How can one girl make a difference? Life is full of ups and downs, there's no question about it. We're tossed through the ringer daily, constantly faced with challenges and left wondering how we'll deal with them. Will we give up, or will we try? Will we cave, or will we push through until we succeed? Will we whine and moan about our misfortunes as we dwell on them for years, or will we learn from them, shrug them off, and heal ourselves with laughter? Ages 14+ (lesbian concepts and some profanity) This is not your everyday love story, okay? It's not a chick flick either. The events and themes within my pages have meaning, depth, truth-and most of all, reality. You are about to be taken on an adventure about a girl who's life is not like everybody else's. George is cancer free after a long battle full of chemotherapy and surgeries at his fourteenth. He starts living his life again, goes back to school and hangs out with his friends and family to appreciate all the small things in life as his leg starts hurting again... Clay is grieving because his mother passed away from lymphoma, a cancer type that's running in his family. With barely anyone around him who can comfort him while grieving, he also needs to deal with his severe anxiety coming from emetophobia, his extreme fear of throwing up. But then the worst thing happens... just as Clay gets diagnosed with blood cancer, George gets diagnosed for the second time with bone cancer. Clay's fear is so big that he doesn't know how to go on and George doesn't know if he can fight this battle a second time...
