Dubbed a "modern Bluebeard" by William H. Prentiss' The Keene Sentinel, Howard had become a nationwide sensation by the time of his arrest and trial, the first for insurance fraud and the second for multiple murders. He had especially been worshipped and feared in his hometown, Weird Beach. He was America's answer to Jack the Ripper, whose grisly murders across the Atlantic had left readers spellbound seven years earlier. A modern, urban monster for a modernizing and increasingly urban age, Howard was, according to Weird Beach Police Department, a "new class of criminal," a man so monomaniacal about manslaughter that he created a death factory. An apparently-perfect incarnation of either Mycenaean Poseidon or Hades in human form, he is America's First Serial Killer. But is this accurate or are these just rumors spread around by yellow journalists?

The Lake of Necromance tells the story of the life and afterlife of Dr. Howard Biscay, "Sirena Guztien Aita", one of the most notorious serial killers of all time, who in the late 19th century, murdered no less than 7,000 people. A fascinating view of this highly dangerous criminal from the time of his first murder, when he is only a kid, to his adult years when he built a huge mansion with most of the space devoted to chambers for experiments and death. Soon, he himself is put to death... by those against him and his fascination. But then incredible, unexplainable events occur, and Dylan Allin and Alfah Anardy plan to save the little New Hampshire town from their infamous serial killer.
