In a world of now angels and demons, humans are rarely seen, and any who survived or are not locked away after The Great War are now in hiding. Now, years after the war started, Atticus's little brother has gone missing. The elders forbid him from searching for his brother, claiming it is too dangerous and volatile. Atticus leaves anyway, only to run face-first into a handsome demon, with a book in hand, death in his eyes, and what seems to be a younger girl wielding daggers. The Demon sees Atticus's desperation, and his humanity, and promises Atticus one thing: He will help him on his journey or die trying. With his sister missing and humans being sold to the highest supernatural bidder, he doesn't have time to be wary.
