After the Looking Glass Ruins, Gus and Matt become closer at school and Gus realizes just how much he likes Matt and it's the same for Matt. They spend so much time together, but both are terrified of rejection. Gus is shy and has trouble confronting his feelings and Matt doesn't know what he is experiencing. His parents told him never to show weakness and to suppress any form of homosexual desires, he grew up with that mentality and he is scared of himself.
