"Pick a number, one through seven
That's the way you'll go to heaven
Some are short and painless death
Others long 'till your last breath..."

There is a secretive murderess on the loose who takes her victims to a rundown church by force and slaughters them in cold blood. Several times this has happened, and Davis Lackerman, her newest victim can't figure out why. What drives her to such acts? Who are all these other ghosts? Why are they all bound to the girl's knife?

While Davis ponders over such questions in his ghostly state, Sasha is on the other end of the blade so to speak. She too wonders what this force is that compels a person to do anything. What makes a person good or evil? Do the means justify the ends, or the cause justify the means?

But all of their peaceable meanderings are about to come crashing down around them. The police are starting to detect things, and Sasha must decide: what is it to lose all sense of humanity?
