Song hates school,  doesn't have friends,  and doesn't care about life. The only reason she hasn't gave up is because this is the nightmare she has to wake up from. Songs dreams show her a world of wonder and her own personal version of life, but even that can't stay perfect forever.  As her life starts to change from the dark nightmares to something much brighter,her dream start to break through the boundary set by sleep.
