Broken by the cruel hand of the one he once loved, Carl rebuilds his life over time and finally grows up and forgets what happened to him.
Now living in a plush new flat he kits it out with new furniture. One piece, an Edwardian dressing table with an oval mirror is perhaps his most prized possession. It takes pride of place in his bedroom, providing him with fond memories of other times, until that is, the dresser begins to mess with his emotions, and his sanity.
