"a chimney stack looks cold and black, against a twilight sky, but never fear! theres warmth up here, perhaps you'll find out why..."
Elizabeth Astor, a 15 year old journalist is forced to move from Birmingham to London, in order for her father to receive the biggest job of a lifetime. Liz left all her friends behind in Birmingham, and misses them dearly. She doesn't fit in at her new school, her siblings are creating trouble, and her father is raging at her mother. When he gets the job, he..changes. He becomes demanding, and once, even strikes her mother across the face. Bewildered, Liz obeys everything he says, so she doesn't get hurt herself. She sleeps 5 hours a night and hardly has time for journaling. Her father picks up on the behavior, and makes her do all the work that a hired maid would do. He says that spending money is a waste, and would rather have a future housewife do the work.
One day, after a tough exam at school, Liz forgets to sweep the chimney...which is a huge deal. Her father is furious, and slapped her across the face. She silently prayed for help, and at that, there was a shooting star in the London Sky. And next morning, there was a knock on the door. Little did she know who was behind that door would change her life for the better, with help of his magical lady friend, of course.

"You failed as a mother; I failed as a son. Can you sit here truthfully, and say you love me? Look in my eyes, and say that you love me despite it all? Say it and I will know it all meant something." Sirius practically begged, his voice choked with emotion.
"Please?" he pleaded, tears welling up in his eyes.
At that moment, as she looked at him, all she saw was a little boy. She saw her little boy, with tears in his eyes, asking to be picked up, waiting for her to bend down and lift him into her arms.
Like a kicked dog returning to its owner, they sought love despite the pain they inflicted on each other. Yet, the cycle persisted, leaving them both yearning for a love that seemed just out of reach.
