Summer Linder had been alone all of her life. She was homeschooled, moved around every month, and even her passion, dancing, was taught by a private tutor in the comfort of her own home. However, when Summer permanently moves to Toronto, Canada, everything changes.
Summer joins The Next Step dance studio, her first public studio, and is quick to make friends and enemies. Her team takes the regional title, one of Summer's dreams, and she is instructed to lead her team to nationals.
But can she do it?
Willow Qiu, a young girl still figuring out her sexuality, is sent to an elite dance camp a few hours' drive away from home, despite her secret wishes not to pursue dance professionally and to leave her home and friends behind. Even before it starts, she is counting down the days until she can return to the comfort and safety of her familiar Vermont hometown. But when she gets there, she meets Lia Casper, an accomplished dancer and the most self-confident person she's ever met. Under the light of the moon on the nights they sneak out and get time on their own, they become something more than friends. However, before the waxing of the fourth lunar cycle begins, Willow will return to her traditional and conservative family in Vermont, and Lia to her equally conservative family in Texas. The clock is ticking, and they're quickly running out of time.
