Beyond 72 Hours

The first 72 hours after a person goes missing are the most important. 92 percent of abducted children are found within 72 hours. 47 percent within just three. Beyond those 72 hours, things get much grimmer. My sister is dead. At least that's what statistics would tell you. Some years ago, my parents would've told you differently. For two years, they would light candles on her birthday; nobody ever blew them out, as if we were waiting for her to show up and do it herself. She never did. With each year, it became harder for them to light the growing number of candles, a reminder of every year without her. They stopped after a few years. I think it became too hard.

Five years after her little sister Scout Brown goes missing, sixteen-year-old Carolina becomes determined to find out what happened to her sister with the help of golden boy Aston Martins, who happens to be the last person who saw Scout, Ryan Brown, the cousin and beloved goalkeeper who had a bit of a thing for his striker, and May Luo, the best friend who wasn't there that night.
