Harriet has seen plenty of the Crimson Catacombs, but she never thought there was a society full of manimals hidden underneath. And that's not the only thing unusual about it.

After hearing about Professor Radichenko recruiting Bert for his quest on finding the mythical Ark of Quetzalcoatl hidden in the area, Harriet goes after the donkey and his bird daughter on an adventure to find the Ancient Aztec vessel.

With Bert and the rough alligator, Ali, along for the ride, they come across several unusual-looking towns, stumble around many underground labyrinths, and escape several factions against Radichenko's royal duty.

And then there's the Curse of the Jackass, which Harriet saw upon in a dream...and it's nothing like its sordid creation myth that came with the Ark...

My friends and I role play a lot in this website called chatzy.com. We have this whole world mapped out based on the Hunger Games. We live in two mansions. One is the main mansion, where we all used to live until it got really crowded, and then the second mansion belongs to Gracie. Her mansion is by a waterfall, just a ten minute walk away. Most of us have super powers. I mean, if the Capitol can make mutts, surely we can give ourselves super powers. Gracie has black wings, Talia has super speed, Chris has super strength, Derrick can make himself invisible. Nina can make herself invisible and make force fields too. We all have issues here. Sierra doesn't talk. Chris is a germaphobe. Chase cuts himself. We all have reasons for running away from the districts and the Capitol, but we've all found sanctuary here. This is the second book of our adventures, a sequel to Outside the Districts.
