"They're probably establishing a beachhead to prepare for operations here." "Operations?" I turned over to face Qibli. "To prepare for war, SandWing. These people are here for war." A squad of 101st Airborne, bound for Japan after VE Day, are suddenly and mysteriously wrecked in Pyrrhia, a land of dragons and adventure. Do they have what it takes to survive and get home? What new and strange rules are to be found in this place? Are they able to face down a traitor in their midst? Or will they drag the war to the peaceful inhabitants of this new place, so that it truly engulfs all worlds? Years of lost wars, unfulfilled treaties, and an excessively lavish lifestyle lived by their ruler, Queen Markhor, have left the SkyWing tribe impoverished and starving, and Shrike, the princess's personal bodyguard, has witnessed the consequences of the Queen's ignorance firsthand. A diplomacy meeting with the SeaWings gone wrong erupts in yet another bloody war, and Shrike is swept up in battle before finding himself caught in between the jaws of the political turmoil that seem to be tearing his tribe apart from the inside out.
