Is it really over this time?
The Captain can't help but be on guard, searching for signs that they've failed once again and becoming very protective of the people they hold dear. Especially their beloved head engineer, Mark. Their obligatory need to protect their crew, however, is strongly combated by the ever-lurking feeling of distrust for everyone surrounding them, including Mark. Observant, though usually oblivious, as always, Head Engineer Mark is all too aware of the spiral the captain has been captured in. He's battled with these same emotions all throughout the process of inhabiting the new planet, though he's chosen to remain hopeful. He takes it upon himself, being the only one to know what the captain is going through, to break through the walls the captain has put up and finally put their mind at ease.
*Disclaimer: trying to keep the captain gender neutral, as they are in ISWM, but I may refer to them as female/fem-presenting out of habit.*

You were originally going to be used as a sacrifice until Dark thought of you as something more. Also, there is another alter ego that feels that you are also something more than a sacrifice.
