This is an AU/alternate universe where Madeleine and Espresso met when they were young. There came a time where Madeleine left, leaving Espresso with a promise that he might never be able to fulfill.

Devastated, Espresso soon grew hatred towards his childhood friend. He given up on their promise, seeing Madeleine forgotten him like he never existed in the paladin's life in the first place.

Madeleine tries to befriend him again when they meet in the future, but was met with a cold shoulder. Would their broken friendship be mended? Would it turn into something more?

He and his siblings were taught to despise the Vanilla Kingdom and its inhabitants, sparking an endless war between the light and the dark. Madeleine is a paladin of the Divines, the Vanilla Kingdom's knight commander and savior, and almost immediately he is intrigued by the coffee mage on the opposing side.
