And in common lore a dear symbolizes beauty and life. So... after a spell going horribly wrong, Angel's fault, Alastor gets thrown into the mortal world, earth. Unfortunately, before any life was born before the order of the light beings knew its purpose. So... he creates the first plants and animals and becomes the god of the earth. With holes in his memory and a hole in his wall, maybe it is there where he can escape and have full recollection of what it is all about...if the hotel lets him.
