It's a hard story to categorise, to slot into one genre. Yes, it is a time travel tale, a BL romance, with history and magic thrown in to make things more interesting. The ML grows on you, even the annoying puff of smoke becomes endearing. It's written as a journal, so the ML only knows what you know as he writes each chapter.
