Racism and discrimination against Downworlders became part of Diana's life from such a young that at some point she stops questioning whether what her parents teach her is wrong or not. Until the fire which takes their lives takes place and suddenly Diana remembers a different life. A life in which she was told over and over again to treat everyone equally, that killing was wrong, and whom anyone loved was none of her concern and that she should let them be. Or In which nine years old Diana Starkweather arrives at the London Institute a very different person than what Will and Tessa Herondale have been told she is.
