Shoot for the stars, they said. So we did. We discovered the best source of energy anyone has ever known: solar flares. However, there's a down side. Take too much energy and the sun can collapse. We made powerful enemies when we took the sun's energy, and there are creatures out there who seek to take the sun's energy for themselves. That's why we had to establish the Guardian program, to protect our people and energy.

Zennebelle, kick ass and determined Guardian, should never have gone on date night. Ella, a dropout of the Guardian program, covered for her sister on the wrong night. They screwed up. Big time. And if they mess up their next mission, the blood of the entire human race is on their hands.

When the people you trust most let you down, your whole world collapses. Sometimes literally.

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)
The Battle Within An Angel by NBNiar
31 parts Complete
Maddox Price has been implanted with a chip, allowing an ancient deity to control every thought that crosses his mind. Be it unwillingly, he's tasked with protecting someone "special," a smart-mouthed girl deemed the "healer of humanity." Claire Adara was raised in an orphanage, left abandoned after her parents died in a fatal car accident. She'd learned to be sneaky, and that trust is a rare gift that must be earned. When she met Maddox, though, she was drawn to him. Well, not to his attitude, but rather the shimmering gold liquid that ran through his veins. As if controlled solely by a deity and absent of any individual thought, Maddox and Claire must (against their natural instincts) work together to save the world from the natural catastrophe that is the Red Giant. The sun has become 100 times bigger than it once was, and it's scorching the Earth. Claire is the only one who can reverse it. Though, the sun is only one problem on a long list of them. Anarchist group- Chaos- is after her life, simply for the omnipotent power that she possesses. As humanity stands on its last two feet- her two feet- Claire works alongside Maddox in a journey to save both humanity and themselves. She thinks it's only while using her big box of 64 crayons. She doesn't realize the power is in her mind's eye and not her writing implements. Jo (20) can teleport. Supercilious self-absorbed Amy (17) has the uncanny ability to get others to do what she wants. She says, ever so sweetly, "I'd prefer..." Dad always called it "wrapping others around her little finger syndrome." If she wanted she could ask a perfect stranger to hand over his car keys and he'd have to oblige. The oldest sister Meg (21) has dreams and visions about the world's near future. She's also very intuitive. Perhaps if she were better at seeing her own future maybe her personal life wouldn't be in shambles?

It's been only a couple years since 'they' have come and the Human population has decreased at a rapid speed where most of 'them' are now in the head. In 2045, I joined the Black Dawn with a boy named Zen. He was kind and sweet to me-but he also has a dark side to him. One that could kill me and everyone else in the Black Dawn. I knew he didn't mean to have the dark side but it was the only way to make sure he stays alive. Anyway, the Black Dawn is a place to protect Humans from 'them' and now it's the opposite. It's a place where secrets are kept hidden and betrayals are just around the corner. Plus 'they' are knocking on the wall that surrounds us to let 'them' in and someone may open the door to our doom.
