His Love

''You can't love me here, I know you can find a better girl to be with.'' He looked at me sadly. ''But I love you.'' ''I'm just not ready yet, I'm going through too much. Listen, since it's November, come back to me in January and tell me if you still love me. I know girls like you, and don't reject them for me.'' ''Fine, but what if I still love you in January?'' He stared at me hopefully. ''Then, I'll be your girlfriend.''

Life is hard for thirteen year old Jamie Morgan. Her boyfriend cheated on her one month after they started going out. Her mother divorced her dad after a few fights, and she lives only with her dad. Her sister is failing grades and is swearing too much; life is hell for her. For thirteen and a half year old Lucas Brown, his life is simple. He's average at grades, has a brother who he can count on, has a happy family and he is living his life to the fullest, in a good way. He has been in Jamie's classes ever since grade two. He's almost never talked to Jamie, just admiring from afar about how beautiful and graceful she is. He notices that this year she has been depressed, and her exam marks and grades are slowly going down. She's not hanging out with her friends. He can't stand to see her like that so he introduces himself one day, and becomes her friend. And maybe more.
