They try to fix events that led up to this moment, Kaguya's victory. They were about to seal her, but she got away. Now everyone is dead, due to them not being able to seal her. They try again, this time, determined not to let everything fall apart again. Protecting the people, just how it was supposed to be.

Naruto is the only survivor of the war along with Madara. It was two years into the war and Naruto was already at his peak much like Madara but he didn't show it.
