An unfortunate cat, which is trapped in a box, may or may not be alive - scientists analyzing the box from the outside cannot know the state of the cat unless they open the box. Thus, the cat is both alive and dead when it is not observed.
The cat, of course, could very well be alive, perhaps even trying to claw it's way out of said box. But the point of the experiment is that the cat should be unable to move, and that something in there has the potential to kill it at any point. Hence, one does not know if the cat is dead, or alive.
Now, imagine, that that state of both life and death is a constant, even after the cat is out of the box. Or perhaps, that dread that something deadly is in the box is the constant.
What then?

DAOA is the main storyline that takes place in Lanston Hollow. It is attached to the Tales From Lanston Hollow series, but the state of those stories being canon or not will remain something only I know.

I'm a Regulator-a law-enforcement agent who monitors the creatures of the Netherworld to keep them from wreaking havoc in the mortal world.

Enter Knight Vander, a cocky investigator sent from the Netherworld to work the case with me. Knight is what's called a Loki and he's the first of his kind I've ever come across. He was created by Hades, in Hades' own image and can I just say that Hades must have been pretty hot...
Yeah, Knight is the sexiest guy I've ever seen but he's also bossy, demanding, and way too convinced of his own self-importance.
As the body count increases, I find myself having to keep a sadistic demon in check all the while fending off the advances of a super powerful vampire, Bram. And dealing with Knight isn't exactly a walk in the park.
Sometimes working law enforcement for the Netherworld is a real...
