In June 1873, I was born to a low-income family traveling the sea. There wasn't enough food on the boat, so the captain, in the last-ditch effort, said to everyone that, to save food, anyone under three and over 85 had to be thrown over. So I, along with 20 other people, was thrown overboard and left for dead. So that was the end for me, only a few hours old, not even given a chance to live, dead in the water. Then they came and saved me because I was young and vulnerable. They gave me a new life. And unlike my parents, they gave me a chance to live.
  
  Another boat, another vulnerable captain, steering towards the rocks dead. Another, then another, then another. The sun started to set. There was the final boat. I sang and sang, but they wouldn't come. Who was this? Were they immune to my song?

Since the rising tide of such tales, the seas became far quieter, as rich choruses of song were sharply silenced, and the ocean itself became even more vicious with fury at its children being hunted. Hunted by Scholars thirsty for forbidden wisdom. Hunted by merchants greedy for more bloodstained wealth. Hunted by soldiers, clad in royal colors, setting out by the thousands to collect for their king. A queen cries out to the ocean for help. For a hero to save her children. And the ocean sends no hero. The ocean sends pirates. The ocean sends those who once fled from the sound of Sirens songs, now singing choruses of their own, brandishing scales of silver and steel, hungering for things greater than gold. They want glory.
