A Biomarker (short for biological marker) is an objective assessment of what is going on in a cell or organism at any particular time. Biomarkers can be used as health early warning systems. A Blood Based Biomarker (biological marker in the patient's blood) is a quantifiable DNA, RNA, or protein component that can identify disorders like cancer or Alzheimer's. Blood-based biomarkers can assist quantify health and disease by providing a measure of an individual's biochemistry from a simple patient blood sample.
