Disfigured from birth, sixteen-year-old Mira Hartwell is left to fend for herself after her mother's brutal murder. Unable to bear the girls' home she's been placed in and terrified of contact with her violent father, she finds a safe haven underneath the stage of a high school theater. From her secluded vantage point she can watch the "Beautiful People" live out their lives, both onstage and off. Carson Rutherford, one of the B.P.'s, begins to notice odd occurrences around the theater as he's rehearsing after hours, and is determined to find out the cause of them. Mira must decide if she's brave enough to face a world that has rejected her, and whether Carson will be her downfall---or her salvation.
