Juniper Kinny had always kept to herself. It was easier that way, safer. The memories that weren't hers haunted the back of her eyelids for as long as she could remember.

Theo Kinny was an anxious person. He was sensitive and words cut through him as sharp as a knife. He loved his friends but they didn't know anything about the real him. They didn't know about his past.

Juniper believed she was cursed. That nothing good would ever come from or to her. That anybody who got close to her would tempt the same fate as her.

Theo believed he would never be able to let out how he truly felt. He felt that if he did, it would ruin everything. He thought that his emotions would be the wildfire that killed everything his life rotated around.

Juniper came to the conclusion that she would die very soon. That no one would ever think twice about the girl in the back of the class with the Walkman at her side and her head down on her desk. She never would've thought that stuff if she knew what her life would become, and everyone she would come to love.

Theo imagined being able to tell his friends everything some day. He thought about how nice it would be to lay all of his emotional baggage out. How his friends would hug him and continue to accept and support him. But a part of him also forced an image of complete abandonment. Of being a social pariah. He never would've let these thoughts get the best of him if he knew about the love that letting go would allow him to experience.
