Love? Friendship? Mistake.

Shuddering into her sheets, she flung off the quilt and heaved a sigh.

It WAS a mistake.

Clearly she was broken.

And it wasn't the cauldron that did it.

It was her.

Because SHE picked Grayson while still human and then Azriel after becoming fae. But all Elain kept receiving was rejection, rejection, rejection.

If immortality was just filled with getting her heart broken into pieces once every couple years over and over and over... she didn't want it.

She wanted safety. She wanted security. She wanted a love that was written in the stars, perfectly laid out for her, and safe to grasp ahold of. And that's when she realized it: she wanted fate... but more specifically... she wanted to live by the cauldron's decision.

Because if she couldn't choose love for herself without getting her heart broken, then perhaps she should put her trust in the cauldron.

But she would do it her way.

The primal nature of a mating bond was fae enough... it needed some... grooming.

Leaving the comfort of her quilts and standing up, she drew towards the window, overlooking the front lawn of the River Mansion. Looking out her window, Elain came to a decision, her eyes gliding across the Sidra as it wound its way through Velaris and out into the realm of the rest of the Night Court.

Court.

Courting.

She would court Lucien Vanserra, trust the cauldron, and get the Hells out of the Night Court and away from these infernal shadows."

"Lilith! You little sneak!" Her sisters laughed as she remained perched on the tree branch. She leaned down, grinning, her brown hair falling like a curtain in front of her beautiful face. Her blue eyes were gleaming with mischief as she stuck her tongue out. "I always win at hide and seek." "Yes, because you're a sneak!" Nesta said, fondly chuckling. She slid off the tree eventually to join her parents and sisters for dinner, laughing, carefree. A few years later, she was hunting and killing, stealthy and quiet as a panther stalking after its victims. Nobody called her a little sneak anymore, nobody but that evil, traitorous voice in her head: and it certainly wasn't spoken with affection. ... Kallias' hands trembled more than he'd like to admit as he held his daughter for the first time: she looked like the perfect mix of her mother and father, only warmer, sweeter, as if to signal the war was over: warmer days had come. She had curly blonde hair, some shades darker than her parents' and blue eyes- the ocean's shade, not the ice's. Vivianne stood behind Kallias, her voice slightly wobbling as she looked at her- their child. "She's beautiful." She whispered, and harshly shallowed, trying not to cry. War was over- war was over, her family was alive, and nothing, absolutely nothing could go wrong anymore. "We will name her Amelia. It means soft in Ancient Greek. And soft she will be." Kallias muttered, running his fingers over his daughter's cheek. ... Two girls: one mortal and one Faerie. Two stories, one ending.

Two hundred years ago Rhysand lost his mother and sister in a grueling murder. But what if that sister had survived? What if the head in that box was just a tree-stump, transformed to look exactly like her? What if she had instead been sold for her knowledge on the mysterious Night Court? And what if that sister would now, just a few years after the war, find her way back, but with agendas of her own? ****************************************************************************** "Alright, oh wise one, my need for wisdom has run out now, so you can be on your way now" I waved my hand. "That's cold" Rhys put a hand over his heart, " I thought we were having a big-bro-little-sis talk here." I rolled my eyes, but he slid an arm around my shoulder: "We both already know what you'll do anyway." "Oh, we do, is that right?" He nodded: "You always been so predictable, if you would write murder-mysteries everyone would know from the beginning who killed the victim." "That's weirdly specific, how long have you been sitting on that one?" I snorted. "Since you insulted my taste in art" he sniffed theatrically. I laughed: "You are one petty High Lord." "I don't even know what to say to that insolence" he shook his head.
