The bustling, charming town of Skegness holds a secret. Matthew Parker has the perfect life working as a computer programmer in the city and occasionally partying with his girlfriend, Catherine Williams. However, when he finds a peculiar book in the attic of his family house, he begins to realise that things are not as quite as they seen in the Parker family. A funeral leaves Matthew with some startling questions about his past, and he sets off to the industrial Berlin to find some answers. At first, the people of Berlin are welcoming and kind. He is intrigued by the curiously friendly lawyer Jenna Pitt, but when she introduces him to hard gambling, Matthew slowly find himself drawn into a web of manslaughter, theft, and perhaps, even kidnap. Can Matthew resist the charms of Jenna and uncover the secret of the book before it's too late or will his demise become yet another Skegness legend?

Abigail Everett is ashamed. Her future has been decided since a disgusting earl showed up and began courting her. She dislikes this future; she'd much rather be free and live life to its fullest. Her mother died when she was ten, and her father abandoned her at her uncle's doorstep. Uncle Charlie is very uptight and follows rules precisely, something that makes her feel trapped. Matthew Larsson is angry. He wants to start a rebellion against the strict King Charles. His mother died in childbirth when he was twelve, and he has always felt like his father has never cared for him. He wants to prove to the king that not all peasants deserve a life of misery. He loves his village and yearns to keep them from harm. When the two are thrown together in an unexpected situation, they realize that someone within the castle walls is plotting to kill them both. Will they be able to find the killer and put him to rest? Or will they die trying?
