Caleigh Lansky isn't like others her age. Her little sister, Heavyn, has been diagnosed with Leukemia and their mother died when Heavyn was a newborn. Their father hardly gets to see them and when he does see them, it is from behind bars. Caleigh and Heavyn are sent to live with a foster family until either their father is released from prison or another family member comes forth to take care of them. Problems, both physical and mental, arise and Caleigh begins to self-harm and refuses to eat.

A family member that they never knew existed comes forth and takes the children. Caleigh and Heavyn have to move across the country to restart their entire lives. Their neighbor seems to be interested in Caleigh and goes out of his way to befriend her. She tries to keep herself from having an emotional attachment to anything so it will be easier for her to let herself fall apart. In the meanwhile, Heavyn's condition worsens and it is only a matter of time before both Lansky girl's let go of everything they have ever known.

Katelyn has been in and out of the foster system since her mother died when she was young. After her father gets put in jail again, she gets sent to live with the Thomas family. The Thomas's are a very well-off family with four boys. Their house is usually the main hangout for the boys and their friends. Kate hasn't ever lived with siblings before, let alone this many boys, so it's a big change for her. Daniel is your typical high school football player; he's got the looks, the muscles, talent, and even the overbearing dad who wants him to go pro. Daniel, however, really couldn't care less about a career in football, he loves the game, but it's his dad's dream for him to go pro, not his own. At least not anymore. He spends most of his free time away from his house and hanging out at either the Thomas or the Copperfield house. He can't wait to go off to college with his friends and get away from his dad and the stupid little town he grew up in. How will things change for them over the next year? This will be a series of 4, but the other books will be spin-offs and can be read as stand-alone books. They will, however, be published in chronological order. Full warning, this book is much shorter than I intend on making the spin-offs. I was planning on writing book two as the first in the series but found myself needing more of a prequel to all three other books, and so I chose to write something from their high school years. Bonus points for giving Daniel a love interest that was more than just a name.
