"That could be a power that might rival that of the most powerful High Lord in history."

A female that was once a fierce warrior, wakes up 150 years later with nightmares of torture and spells swirling in her mind, holding her prisoner. A court of fae emanating power in their every breath, finds her bound in a dungeon and then whisks her away to safety.
See how the lot of Prythian reacts when a new powerbroker enters their realm.
Is peace attainable for The Night Court with a weapon of mass destruction in their midst? When faced with her past, does this female stand beside the friends that helped save her, or will the allure of dark power consume her?

*Original characters and base story/history credited to Sarah J. Maas
Carina is my original character and her first person POV is the only one in the story. Any other jump in perspective is third person, which is there to move the plot and include the other characters considering they basically exist as a whole.

"Everything hurt. Nothing felt...real. It was cold in this dark cell. I had long ago given up screaming for help, or trying to get the door open. The wound in my side would kill me soon. Would anyone come? I didn't know. I didn't care. At least, I didn't care until that door finally opened and a man with wings stepped into my small cell." ****** Adrianna grew up in an Illyrian war camp. Their brutal ways forced her to hide in ways she didn't want to. Then when she was caught teaching herself to fly, she was punished, her wings bound with clamps. Then, her parents presented her with a male that she would marry. He was one of the few considerate Illyrian males in the camp, but when he is suddenly murdered, she is blamed for the heinous crime. Then, she was taken Under the Mountain and forced to fight to the death in a Ring created by the evil Amarantha for the enjoyment of her evil Court. For twenty-two years she remained in a small, dark cell, only leaving to fight or to perform other tasks the evil Fae from Hybern demanded until an Illyrian man came to save her. He was none other than Azriel, the Shadowsinger and the High Lord's Spymaster. Whisked away to the Court of Dreams, her wounds were cared for, her wings... somewhat fixed. Now, she works for High Lord Rhysand as his personal assassin, but when a startling discovery comes around about her past, she must make a decision that could cost her everything. ****I do not own the drawings featured in the cover. Gwyneth had always felt connected to her faith, a higher power presiding over her. That faith had shaken that devastating day those years ago, the day that went on to haunt her every nightmare for years to come. She's still trying to come back from it, to not only restore her faith in life and love, but her faith in herself. The sanctity of her spirit- she prayed for resolve. Every punch was a prayer. Every mile was a hymn. Until her knuckles bled and her knees gave. Azriel had been surrounded by darkness his whole life, a poison on his world, on his being. He exercised restraint in his every waking moment, banishing that darkness within himself. Some guessed of the strain it put on him, but no one knew the extent of it, how deep his scars ran. It was better this way, he was sure. He had always thought that if there were a higher power- which he wholly doubted- such deities must loathe him to have burdened him such darkness. He hadn't much faith in the gods anyway, much less faith that he could sway their opinion on him. But Gwyneth and Azriel did have one thing in common: the quiet fight within themselves. They only knew one way: to go about it alone, couldn't fathom letting another in. But there's a magic in finding someone who is your equal but opposite, something transforming. And frankly, Gwyneth and Azriel could both use a little magic. All characters owned by SJM in the ACOTAR series. Story takes place after the events of ACOSF. Aligns with the events in my other fic: A Storm of Flames and Deceit. I haven't finished Crescent City, so this story takes place outside of the events of those books as well.
