"He needed more than me." After Matthew's best friend Andraste died by suicide, things began to spin around. Matthew woke up in a new dimension, living Andraste's life and figuring out new kinds of feelings. Suddenly,he had to deal with a homophobic father, deathly fears, horrible creatures, mad games and the fact he became Andraste Ash,and Andraste became Matthew Black in a dimension that didn't seem real. He fell in love and wrote songs, sat at the harbour until night and lived the life he wanted his best friend to remember. Matt began to see things he hadn't known about his former best friend, and soon he didn't know if he had really known Andraste. Was it the mysterious, scary voice Andraste had been running from? What if his death was a prediction? Did Matt had to take the same way to come back where he belongs? And what if everything you loved turns out as a game of pain and hope? I stare at Matt's face as he looks down, concentrating on the game. I can tell he's so angry. He's holding it in his jaw, he's clenching his teeth. He's up in his head and I don't know what's going on up there but I just know it's not good. Even if I get him back out now, I know that he's going to overthink everything later tonight. "Matty, it's ok." I whisper. He immediately looks up and finds my eyes. His blue eyes are bluer than normal. Impossibly blue. Not even a gray blue. But a pure, brilliant blue. "It's not ok, Rach. I fucking hate him." His swear catches me off guard a bit. But my eye contact doesn't waver. "Thank you." "You're welcome." My favorite color immediately changes to blue. --------------- Two childhood friends have spent a lifetime battling demons. Will life ever give them a break?
