Colin returns from his trip to Greece, only to discover Penelope Featherington has been sold by her conniving mother to an old and lecherous Baron to save her family from financial ruin. Colin fails to rescue her from her forced marriage and has to watch as the love of his life slip away from him. The guilt of failing to save her soon torments him to years.
