Poppy had always been caged and Chosen by the gods. On the inside, she knew that there was something sketchy about the whole thing. She longed to explore, to not be caged, but the so called Ascended forbid her. As a Maiden, she isn't allowed to do anything that she wanted too.

Hawke Flynn was Poppy's personal guard, his duty is to protect her with his own, but deep inside, he hides secrets so dark that if anyone within the palace grounds knew, he would be killed.

Laila is Poppy's closest friend, but she too, hides secrets. Secrets that absolutely nobody alive knows. Everyone that figured out was to be killed.
