Eighteen year old Myrielle, a ward of the Sisters of Ceto, is convinced she is going to die. Haunted by strange dreams, sleep walking, and a sense of doom, Myrielle struggles to find balance in a world whose god she does not believe in: the goddess Ceto herself.
When her dreams turn out different than she had ever realized, Myrielle realizes there is more to the story than it seems, that her reality is far different, and that magic, after hundreds of years, is finally coming back. And with it, comes evil. Strange and dark creatures lurk beneath the surface in the mythical hell called the Deep. As magic blooms and the age-old war comes haunting, the monsters rise with it. But with betrayals and deceit, the monsters are everywhere she turns to, from those she trusted, to those she called friend.
Myrielle must come to terms with magic, what she truly is, and understand that the only person she can really trust is herself.
