Dear Mother                                          4th May 1933
I hope you're doing well! Today is my 15th birthday, which means it's been 5475 days since I last saw you! It was 15 years ago. It's been wonderful here...I'm still waiting for you to return for me...if you've forgotten, Vincent Petes home for children! I miss you so terribly, mother, but I know you'll come back for me one day! I believe I've developed feelings for someone..male, Gale Wilhem, the bakers boy. Mother i am homosexual..no one has to know though and i promise we will have a healthy relationship! i know that red herrings don't work and i know it sounds outrageous but I'm as daft as a bush. if Mrs Annabella found out i would probably be sent to the streets of London, mother I am aware that it is unethical and against all norms. I'm sorry, but this boy is much handsome, and I can't help myself. I know it's against the law, but if you could just help me keep it hidden, it'll be great. I had to conclude this letter since it is time for me to dust the chimneys, and the mail will be arriving soon, but please know that I love you and will never give up hope that you will return!
