In this AU only a few vampires can procreate Elijah mikaelson was only of the lucky ones . Elijah had a daughter with a witch who died after giving birth. After his girlfriend died he had a hard time taking care of his daughter he spoils her but he can get pretty busy dealing with super naturals. Other supernaturals hate the fact that more mikaelson's are coming they constantly try to attack hope (Klaus mikaelson's daughter) and Elijah's daughter Mila Elijah needs someone to protect Mila when he can't. He also needs someone to spend time with her and play with her so one day..
