Joan Mayfield, the 18-year-old sister of Maxine Mayfield. She moved back to Hawkins in the summer of '85 after living with their dad for a few years. During the summer she got close with the older group of Max's friends, Steve and Robin, and Dustin of course (Steve's bestie). After Billy, and Max's death, and the StarCourt fire that devastated the entire town of Hawkins; Their step-dad left, leaving her and her mother alone and poor. Joan had to get a job to support the family leaving her stressed and tired. Then September came and school started again. Everyone acted like nothing even happened.
