Malenia and Miquella, twin demigods born of Queen Marika the Eternal and Radagon of the Golden Order. One cursed with Scarlet Rot, the other cursed with eternal youth, ever since birth. Miquella was once a fundamentalist, but soon abandoned fundamentalism when he realized that the Golden Order couldn't help his sister with her sickness.

Not only this, but Malenia too realized that there was no cure to her ailment. From this came the beginning of Unalloyed Gold. The twin prodigies, one working to protect her brother, the other working against the Greater Will, more so having the motivation to remove the influence of the Outer Gods from the Lands Between.

Miquella deemed these afflictions to be that of Outer Gods, and so dedicated his life to beating back their influence. He grew the Haligtree from his own blood, creating a home for he and Malenia. And yet when he chose to rest within the Haligtree, in hopes of, at last, finding a solution, he was taken by another demigod.
