You know when you lose yourself? When you start forgetting about what you did yesterday or what you had for breakfast? This book is about the stress that I feel and how sometimes it gets hard. You almost just want to end it all. But "the unfamiliar" is a book I have written to show you that even when you are slowly losing yourself you will find yourself in a part of your life that makes you slowly piece yourself back together.

There are times in our lives that we look for something deliberately and grow tired of the search when it isn't found. Later, we might decide that it doesn't exist or that it is lost beyond the pursuit. But then, one fine day it falls right in to your lap without even calling out for it. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Maddie goes to group therapy, where she shares her feelings. Every week it's the same thing, until Maddie gets a new lab partner: Zach Williams, every girl's dream date.
