Kilan is on the run. From men he knows all too well in a forest he does not know well enough.
And running into that tree didn't help.
But when he wakes up, the forests are the least of his concerns.

Kilan finds he has stumbled upon a castle, hidden deep in the woods, filled with servants and young masters who feel like they might just be more then they seem.
And there are the thorns. Thousands upon thousands of thorns that cover the grounds and yet only cover one tower - why?

And what about the dreams? The girl in the rose room? She seems so real, almost familiar, and yet he can only see her when he sleeps within the castle walls. She isn't there and he has not the time for a Sleeping Beauty. He has other things to contend himself with, in reality - in the waking world.

His most prized possession is gone. A story book that means the world to him is lost within the forests - or worse, someone has their hands on it. Above all, it must be found, he has no time for a girl in dreams and the curse placed upon her - he writes fairy tales, he does not live them.

He must find the book and be away from the strange Rose Castle.

But someone has already noted his presence and has taken an interest in him. An interest one would not wish for.

Rell and The Rose by hjnelson
60 parts Complete
A Beast stalks the night... but Beauty hunts him. A reimagining of the story you thought you knew. Rell grew up hearing stories of the Human Realm, a fantastic world with light at the flick of a finger, metal boxes that fly through the sky; a fantastic, faraway fairytale that she knows is too good to be true. Because Rell lives in the Dark Realm: a world full of magical creatures and a low-hanging sky, all protected by The Blood Rose. Until the day the Blood Rose is stolen away and taken to the Human Realm. Without it, the two realms will meet with disastrous consequences, the human sun bleaching all the magic from the Dark Realm. And so Rell leaves everything she knows to bring it back. There's only one problem: the Human Realm- especially high school- is nothing like the stories. There's some sort of code with words like "twerking" and "Instagram" she can't understand, and then there's Bastien, the boy who hates Rell for reasons she can't explain. But when Rell realizes Bastien is keeping just as many secrets as she is, the two become an unlikely team in the search for the Blood Rose. Time is ticking, and more than just The Dark Realm is at stake. Whoever stole the rose is now cursed to turn into a Beast every full moon, and is hidden among them. Students are going missing, and dark creatures are slipping into the Human Realm. Rell needs to find the Blood Rose, slay the Beast, survive high school, and sort out these new, confusing feelings for Bastien--all before the night of the full moon. To fail could mean the end of The Dark Realm and every magical creature within, but to succeed means she'll lose the boy she's falling for, and a Realm more beautiful than she ever imagined. A modern-day reimaging of Beauty and the Beast.
Castle of Flame by flight_literature
15 parts Complete
When 17-year-old Ren Taylor is swept off a ferry during her family vacation in Scotland, she ends up in a hidden world of bagpipes and whisky, populated by fairies with tails and scales. She learns that she's the kingdom's long-lost princess. Once the shock wears off, she finds solace in the kingdom, from her newfound friendship with the hunky and consistently kilt-clad stable manager to the haughty prince Ren comes to love as her brother. Everything is exactly as the stories said it would be. Well, not everything. Ren can't perform the magic that should be her birthright as princess. When she digs deeper, she discovers that it was all a mistake. Ren isn't the princess. She isn't even a fairy. Reeling, she sets out to find answers, and the true princess. She finds her, but the princess doesn't seem as ignorant of magic as she claims to be. As Ren learns more, she comes to suspect that the princess is plotting to kill the prince. She could go home now, pretend that the whole thing was a dream, not risk her very human life in this magical battle - but if she does, the prince will die, and the kingdom will fall into the hands of their enemies. CASTLE OF FLAME is a YA contemporary fantasy, complete at 99,000 words. It is a total of fifteen chapters. The protagonist is biromantic asexual, and there are a bunch of queer supporting characters. The story includes: · found family · Highland ponies · road trip woes · one bed trope (but gay) · coexistence of magic & science · swoony romance & epic friendships · sympathetic villain TW: gun violence, death, kidnapping, torture (implied), homophobia, internalized acephobia (this only comes up twice - this is not a book where the character struggles with her asexuality), destructive house and forest fires.
